About Joy

Joy Sigona is a hunter/jumper trainer who has spent two decades training, teaching, coaching and running various lesson programs. After graduating from Saint Lawrence University with a degree in psychology, she spent many years training in barn management while developing as a teacher/trainer. Jobs working for top Grand Prix riders Laura and David Steffee (Laura won 1991 ASHA Medal finals), teaching at the well known Dana Hall Riding School, and 7 years working at a popular show barn on the North Shore of Massachusetts give her a rich understanding and vast amount of knowledge of the sport!

Joy has experience training young horses from scratch as well as tuning up more mature show horses for their riders. As a competitor she has shown in Wellington, Atlanta, Vermont, and New England. As a junior rider equitation was her specialty. Joy competed at both Mass and New England Finals as a junior and an adult. After college she ventured into the jumper ring. She and her loyal partner Spot successfully competed in the Meter 1.30 divisions. Joy also has a hearty education in flatwork, as it is the foundation for strength for the horse and rider to continue on in whatever discipline they wish.

Joy specializes in teaching all ages child to adult and is known for her approachability with children, ability to empathize and build trust, and level of patience. She takes particular interest in goal setting for her horses in training as well as for her students. Emphasis is always on safety, horsemanship, and striving for a personal best each ride, no matter what the level of participation.
